Hookah Troubleshooting

Hookah Troubleshooting

No bubbles in the the glass base?

  • There may be too much or too little water in the glass vase. The metal stem should be 1 to 1 ½ inches submerged in the water in the glass vase.
  • Check to be sure the hookah is airtight
  • Check hose by blowing into mouthpiece and sealing other end with your thumb if no air passes through when sealed, then the hose is airtight.
  • Check all connections: between glass vase & metal stem, between hose and metal stem, between hookah bowl and metal stem.
  • Check to be sure the valve ball is in place- it must be in place for the hookah to work.

The smoke is too thick?

  • When the tobacco heats rapidly, the smoke inside the chamber of the glass vase may get rather thick. To prevent this, start with one charcoal and place it to one side of the bowl. Using the tongs, move the charcoal around the top of the clay bowl throughout the smoking session. This will portion out the amount of tobacco being heated at one time. As a remedy- blow gently into the hose to clear some of the smoke from the chamber. Using the metal tongs, move the charcoal to one side to portion the amount of tobacco heated.

The smoke is too thin?

  • If the hookah was smoking very well and the smoke becomes very thin, then the charcoal is probably beginning to die out. Carefully clear some of the ash from the charcoal. Light a new charcoal and put it on top of the hookah bowl. Never light a self-lighting charcoal on top of the hookah while smoking- the extra smoke will overwhelm the tobacco flavors.
  • If the smoke starts off very thin, it usually means that the charcoal is not hot enough. Simply, light another charcoal and begin with two charcoals. You may find that once the charcoals are heated, the smoke in the chamber becomes very thick and one of the coals may need to be removed.
